A Twinkle in the Eye of Beingness
Perhaps glimpses of boundless selfless oneness happen as often as the stars twinkle in the night sky. They carry a sense of wonder each time. Even research hints that these moments are not rare.
Awakening experiences do not appear to be mediated by a person’s spiritual or religious context (Perry, 1974; Lukoff, 1985; Taylor, 2012). This is illustrated by a Gallup survey of 1,509 American participants in 2002, in which 41 per cent — representing around 80 million adults — identified with the statement “I have had a profound religious experience or awakening that changed the direction of my life”. A quarter of these reported no religious preference at all (Gallup, 2003). This suggests that profound mystical experiences, such as spiritual and kundalini awakenings, may occur far more frequently within the general population than is often assumed (Lukoff, 1985).

Many people describe something similar: that everything is simply beingness, and that there is no separate self. This does not come and go with the glimpse; it is already the case before, during, and after. The glimpse is not the cause of this realisation. It is simply a little opening into what always is.
Glimpsing is a constant feature of beingness, showing itself along a spectrum of varying forms. But it is not something anyone has. Even though we might hear I had a glimpse, the reality is that there is no I to have one. The glimpse belongs to no one.
What truly matters is not the glimpse itself, but what it points to: that all there is, is this no-thing beingness, appearing as everything. That is the primary truth, not the glimpse, which could be considered to be just a twinkle in the eye of beingness, shining simply because it can.
