The illusion of space and time forms the very foundation of the pattern-matching mind process through which we perceive the eternal and infinite Now.
This mind process is, it seems, essentially a process of “space-timing” of reality.
Space and time create the foundation of contrast—without contrast, the mind cannot delineate, recognise, or engage with anything. Contrast gives rise to the patterns the mind perceives, and thought is its native language for interpreting those perceptions.
This space-timing mind process is like a movie—playing out a version of reality observed by that which is aware of the mind’s perceptions.
This movie implies that whatever is aware of space and time must also be something existing within space and time.
But if we ask, “Is awareness present now?”, it becomes clear that we are aware of awareness itself. This awareness reveals the essential beingness of what we are. Instantly, it becomes apparent: awareness is present. It is how we know we exist.
This knowing is beyond words, yet it is unmistakably known.
This presence is both timeless and spaceless.
It points to something that the mind’s pattern-matching cannot categorise or know. It is beyond the mind. As this presence, we exist outside of space-time. We are no-thing, a non-objective reality.
Once this is understood experientially, the mind process is seen for what it is—a secondary function within the vast field of presence that we are.
And in that recognition, we realise something profound:
What the mind perceives is not separate from this aware presence.
All is this presence.
We have found a reference point beyond the contrasting, space-time-bound mind process. It becomes clear that space and time are illusions generated by the mind to “view” this presence.
Knowing ourselves as this presence, we understand that the mind’s narrative—its constant storytelling about life, time, and identity—is also an illusion.
We become free of the mind’s space-time narrative.
In resting as this aware beingness—something the mind can never grasp—we uncover the very source of the psychological peace the mind has been seeking within space and time.
And so, the mind’s search ends.
From this place of essential beingness, we become truly alive as human beings. We see how the mind’s ceaseless search had consumed energy, distracting us from the simple joy of being fully present.
How beautiful it is to find home and to clearly see that space and time are an illusion the mind creates.
With love,
Freyja
