I Am That I Am As I Am
Whatever we do, we must first clarify “who” is doing it.
When the body moves, it is like a wave moving in the ocean.
When the voice chants, it is like a vibration of energy created by the wind in the trees.
When the mind thinks, it is like lightning appearing in the sky.
Never must we confuse these phenomena with anything other than the movement of undefinable eternal, boundless natural reality itself.
This would be an arrogance of ignoring the essential truth of what is happening.
Are we this individual self in control of the 37 trillion cells in the human body right now?
Do we have anything but the most naive of stories to explain how we are here, what this life is about, and why the universe exists?
We must never fall prey to the illusion that what creates this apparent movement is a result of an individual's separate ego self, as King Canute thought he could control the waves.
This hubris is the cause of great suffering in the world.
Just because our teachers and parents told us we are a separate personal being does not make it so.
As we recognise our beingness and its impersonal nature and rest as that increasingly any notion of separation will disappear, and all that is left is beingness appearing as the flow of transient phenomena in our mind.
All knowing awareness of objects, feelings of love and perceptions of beauty experienced through the form of this human body will dissolve into beingness.
As such, all phenomena that arise are not the vehicle to take us to peace; they are the expression of it.
As this, then when movement appears, it is the movement of beingness and, therefore, movements of peace.
As this, when sound appears from the voice, it is the sound of beingness and, therefore, sounds of peace.
As this, then when thoughts appear in the mind, they are the thoughts of beingness and, therefore, thoughts of peace.
There is nothing we can do to be what we are; we only need to remove the illusion of what we are not and rest in what we already are.
Then, all seeking can cease.
Then from this peace will arise the simple truth,
“I am that I am, as I am.”
