Mind Loves Effects But Mistakes Them as Causes
When resting simply as formless being — aware, without effort — there is often a quiet transformation in the field of experience. Thoughts, sensations, and perceptions may take on a quality of peace, clarity, or ease.
The mind, not recognising the causeless source of this peace, may reach out to grasp these experiences, imagining they are the cause of happiness — for this is its habit.
But the moment it identifies with the experience, as if it were the source, suffering returns. For the mind has mistaken a fleeting appearance for the ever-present reality of being, which alone is the source of happiness.
This psychological discomfort is not a failure, but a gentle indication that the mind has once again overlooked its origin. It need not be resisted, analysed, or judged. There is no need to follow the mind into seeking or self-blame.
Instead, we can recognise this movement as a quiet invitation — an appearance within awareness — calling us back to our essential nature.
Knowing that we are loving awareness, it is this very recognition — to knowingly be the formless presence that is aware of these words — that is the source. There is no veil to lift, only the simplicity of being, always available, whatever the experience.
In time, this recognition becomes natural. The mind’s habit of chasing effects gently fades. Though it may continue to arise from time to time, it is no longer believed in. And even this movement serves as a reminder: what we seek is already present, prior to the search.
With love,
