The Big Loving Freedom Experiment
The only reason we are not psychologically free is that we have thoughts that something is limiting or blocking us. Emotional thoughts may be rather like a fog. As we examine the nature of these thoughts, it becomes clear that this block is the perception that we are a separate subject facing a separate objective environment. We perceive ourselves and our environment as separate objects.
This is confirmed because we experience ourselves in this moment as a feeling in the body and this instantly confers on the environment a similar kind of solidity. This gives rise to a range of thoughts based on the story that this perception of ourselves and the environment is true. I refer to this as "space timing the self". In other words, we perceive ourselves to be an object in space and time, and this is confirmed by associating with feelings in the body.
The thoughts that derive from this automatically treat the environment as if it were some jigsaw puzzle that has to be solved. When all the pieces are in the right place, everything will be fine. This is because space-time timing ourselves implies that reality consists of objects that have to be arranged in order.
There is a pervading sense of lack associated with this, as the very nature of objectifying the self is that we are lacking something. There is a pervading sense of fear about this because the very nature of objectifying the self is that being an object is unstable, and we may disappear, and to prevent this, we must resist change. So fear and lack are intrinsic to space-timing the self.
The conclusion is that this whole feeling of fear, lack, and being blocked comes down to identifying with the thoughts that say we are a separate self looking out on a separate objective world.
The solution to this is to return to our very beingness through the door of being aware. This is not objectifiable and not dependent on space or time, yet it is real, and we know it even though it is not objectifiable. As we rest as our essential beingness, it becomes clear that we are not a subject and the environment is not a separate object. We are this non-objectifiable luminous reality that words defy, and as we recognise our permanent unchanging beingness, we feel nothing but love, wholeness and psychological safety. Our perception goes through a radical shift, and everything we perceive is recognised in the moment to be simply a flow of beingness and contains no more meaning than that.
Of course, we will perceive the patterns of objects, but we also perceive their essential beingness. We see with two eyes—the eyes of our mind and the eyes of our heart of beingness. Here, we are in spaceless, timeless beingness. Here, there is no perception of being an object trying to arrange a jigsaw puzzle of separate objects but simply a flow of activity emerging in the form of practical and enthusiastic thoughts without any sense of surrounding fear and limitation.
Thus, we have found a way out of the psychological fear of space timing the self. The simple answer is to rest as our essential aware beingness and allow life to flow from that. Its simplicity is the wisdom of ages, what the saints and sages have been constantly telling us in various ways, ceaselessly encouraging us to see that there is a solution to existential fear that derives not from belief or dogma but direct irrefutable experience.
Obviously the ego mind based on the need to neurotically control the jigsaw of life tries to cling to its old habit of doing this by self-protecting thoughts such as "your life will fall apart if you do not try and work it out intellectually and control it", but each time such a thought arises we can with conviction test our new perception that everything is a flow and see what emerges intrinsically from beingness rather than from the ego conditioned mind.
Naturally, in this way, we can decondition the ego-conditioned mind and live from fearless beingness. We find that living from fearless beingness allows us to love without fear, appreciate beauty without ownership, and hear the flow of deep, intelligent wisdom without mental strategising. In this way, we can see if life works out better and, through actual lived experience, add to our conviction that it does.
