The Curriculum Of The Universal Family
For those seeking to experience intrinsic wholeness and peace and mind, as well as those who have found it and would like to maintain it and live by it, here is a more detailed description of what is shared in The Universal Family Program during the six 90-minute sessions:
There are six core themes, covering the understanding that our essential nature is a reality that cannot be known as dependent on or identified with the physical mind and body and that the mind can be open to the possibility of being the one universal reality. This reality we are is always present and we can recognise this presence through its primary attribute, which is awareness. It is this aware presence or beingness that is reading and understanding these words right now that our mind recognises as patterns of information. The mind is itself an attribute of this aware beingness. However, because we are aware of the thoughts and metaphors that take raw sensorial information and transform this into metaphorical patterns of information, our attention is often initially fully engaged with this. In effect, we “forget” or “ignore” our aware beingness.
We, therefore, interpret the entire world through the mind’s metaphors that break reality up metaphorically into various separate forms. From this, the belief is created and assumed that we, too, are a separate form looking at these other forms. In other words, we come to experience ourselves as if we were a separate subject looking at separate objects. This is the foundation of how the mind thinks thoughts that are based on defensive fear and inadequacy of being a separate object, which distract the mind from its primary role—to heal, nourish, protect the body, and facilitate play.
This way of experiencing ourselves as some form of separate entity is, in fact, a distorting effect of the mind only. As soon as we become directly aware of our aware beingness, which cannot be known metaphorically and which is, therefore, a reality prior to the mind, then we clearly see this distorting effect for what it is. We still see the metaphors of the mind. Still, we also experience their underlying reality, which is the same reality we are, as there is only one reality that is everything. As we experience this, we instantly experience the wholeness of our being, which is the basis of permanent psychological peace of mind. This wholeness becomes apparent because of six characteristics of this aware beingness.
Session 1: We start the program with a detailed recognition of the symptoms of lack and fear that are plaguing our mind and body through detailed self-honesty, using an auditing tool I have developed. We also acknowledge the powerful desire we must have to return to our natural intrinsic wholeness, as this has been the universal goal that we have been searching for all along. We use the metaphorical map of the Universal Family to help us clearly understand our present moment experience—being aware, thinking, and sensing—in order to achieve intrinsic wholeness, which we clarify must have six fundamental characteristics to qualify as intrinsically whole.
Session 2: We learn to rationally inquire into our experience of our aware beingness, discovering that it was the source of intrinsic wholeness all along and that we are already whole as we are. We learn to rest as this and establish ourselves as this, so we experience this intrinsic wholeness as our predominant natural condition.
Session 3: We consciously explore detailed evidence the mind holds to defend its belief that our aware beingness is dependent on the body. We conclude with firm conviction that our mind cannot know this to be true and, therefore, can be open to the possibility that it is not. Then, we are free to verify through our direct experience the nature of our aware beingness without our mind placing any limits on what we are or imposing meaning upon our nature—as if it were the story of being a separate personal entity trying to survive. Based on this, we can de-program any rational limiting beliefs based on the idea of being a separate personal entity, which causes us to feel fear and lack. Free of these thoughts, the mind can function to heal, nourish, protect, and play.
Session 4: Because we have paid attention to the mind’s belief of being a separate entity for many years, we not only experience rational thoughts based on this belief, but these thoughts have become an embodied experience. Thus, we also have irrational feelings of being a separate physical entity. Here, we explore these feelings to ensure we are clear that we are not these feelings but are instead that which is observing them. They are simply a sensorial form of our beingness—not separate and not something to fear. In this way, we avoid falling into the trap of intellectually rejecting being a separate personal entity, yet still subconsciously feeling we are one. We are able to stay free of such misidentification on both the level of the mind and the body.
Session 5: We understand the natural function of the mind to heal, nourish, protect, and play. We understand how the mind may suffer from embedded habits resulting from anxiety, addiction, trauma, and other conditions; we learn how to introduce understanding to deal with specific emotional blocks and patterns. We also understand the core needs of the mind and body and how to recognise and approach these authentically, allowing healthy nourishment to take place. We also understand the mind’s capacity to protect itself from toxic influences.
Session 6: We understand and feel we are fundamentally safe and whole just as we are, and we are free to sincerely and authentically express our life-affirming love, courage, compassion, wisdom, and many other qualities within the story of our daily life. We realise that this moment is a beautiful flow of appearances expressing the will of aware beingness, beyond the control of the mind. In this freedom, we trust the transformational power of our essential beingness, which is the source of everything, and we learn to trust the flow of life. We discuss decision-making and how this understanding can naturally lead to positive changes in our daily lives. We close this final session by discussing practical ways to integrate the understanding of the Universal Family into daily life so that we can thoroughly enjoy the blessings of our intrinsic wholeness.
Detailed notes accompany this program on my website, my book "Naturally Being," and recorded contemplations.
I hope this is clear and makes sense. Please feel free to ask any questions.
